Bloggers and Alternatives to Adsense

Most bloggers, it seems, depend upon at least part of their revenue to come from Google?s very popular contextual advertising program, called Adsense. To give them credit, Adsense has probably been the most significant driving force behind the elevated levels of interest in building blogs as income producing tools. However, not all bloggers are actually able to utilize the Adsense program and it might not suit the specific needs of many other bloggers.

If your blog produces a nice stream of traffic and are looking for different alternatives to Adsense for monetizing your site, you might want to keep in mind some of the following options:

Adgenta. This is a keyword based program that allows publishers to place ads into their blog. Each time one of the ads are clicked, the blogmaster earns a flat fee of $.015US. Whereas Adsense determines which advertisers to display based on its own automated assessment of your web page?s content, Adgenta, however, allows you to pick which keywords you want it to use for choosing the best advertisements. A fantastic solution for those who have pages that are not spider friendly and fail to serve up good, relevant Adsense ads or for people who seem to manage only low paying advertisers and think there are other related subjects that should induce more clicks from visitors. Adgenta?s user interface is quite simple and registration is also free. Ads are in fact inserted directly into your website using plain and simple HTML blocks and the ads themselves are actually linked graphics, unlike the significantly more complex javascript used by Google Adsense.

Yahoo! Yahoo! has now launched YPN, its own version of Adsense and initial reports seem to indicate that it may well be a profitable solution for people having trouble with Adsense. Yahoo's system works very similar to the Adsense script, and Google users will be able to utilize the alternative program easily. Although comparitively still in its infancy, the Yahoo! program is backed by another major player, which gives it a considerable degree of long-term consistency. Unfortunately, the Y.P.N. project is still only in beta and publishers must apply for or receive an invitation to participate, and beta testers are also limited to the US.

Ad Networks. Rather than depending on the pay-per-click model, some bloggers choose to simply sell ad-space on their blogs for straight paid text link or even banner advertising. This is done by the blogger directly or through the use of an ad-broker. People who believe your blog attracts the type of visitors likely to consider their product appealing may choose to rent space for an ad on your blog site. If your blog receives a good number of accurately-targeted visitors, selling ad-space can be a lucrative alternative to the Google Adsense or other P.P.C. models.

Many options abound of course. Chikita mini-malls, that use your blog as a traffic generating way to launch into affiliate sales, text link programs, MSN's new contextual advertising program and a host of alternatives are on the market. If you don't believe Adsense is working for your blog, or you're not able to use Adsense, there are definitely other credible models with which to make your blog a money spinner. Google Adsense may be the largest name in town, but it is by no means the only way!
